I chose the lower-priced 4Gb machine and I've never run into any memory-related issues that I know of. When I purchased this machine there was also a unit available that was configured with 6Gb RAM versus this unit's 4Gb and I went back and forth on whether I really needed the extra RAM of the higher-priced machine. I've never had a need to do that but it could be a neat feature for some peeps. Printing can be done locally or over the web to my home printer so I can print to my home printer from anywhere I have an internet connection. I don't think that they're as robust as Microsoft Word and Excel but for basic home use, they do the job just fine. Google docs and sheets are used for word processing and spreadsheets, respectively, and come already integrated. As a bonus, I can choose whether or not to sync things like bookmarks, site passwords, etc, to my Android devices like my phone. There are no backup issues because once configured, backups move to the Google cloud. The only things that I can't do with this machine are run my tax software because the publisher of the software hasn't released a Chrome version (their online software would work but I don't use that) and I have a program for a tire pressure monitoring system summer/winter tire changeover that is Windows only. Hopefully, it doesn't have any flex related durability issues in the future. At $249 I can't complain too much, especially if I can get five years' use out of it like my Samsung. It would be better if it was made of heavier plastic or aluminum but then the cost would probably increase making it less of a bargain. I purchased this one after my previous 5-year-old Samsung 11" Chromebook's battery began to fail.īecause this Acer is made of plastic and is a larger 14" unit it's longer in every dimension than my 11" and as a result, there is more flex. They're inexpensive, do the job and there are no painful Windows updates to deal with. I've used Chromebooks for the past seven or eight years as my daily go-to machine for web, email, etc.
